The main conflict is that the narrator is trying to accept his suppressed homosexuality. When the unnamed boy (aka the narrator ) begins to develop an affinity for Mangan's sister it's actually just his subconscious trying to go against his actual sexual orientation. It's a cover up for his homosexuality because he is ashamed of it.Later in the story when Mangan's sister talks to him about the bazaar, he says that he'll go and bring her something back. He's not actually going for her, but rather himself. He wants to go to the bazaar so he can find young attractive males. However he must wait for his uncle to come home so he can give him money. the narrator waits patiently for his uncle but it takes him forever to get home. By the time is uncle returns, it is already 9 PM. The narrator get's the money from his uncle and proceeds to the bazaar. By the time he gets there it's about to close and our narrator is left with no chance to mingle or socialize. He's left with blue balls.
