What is the significance of this date 12/21/2012, in regards to Nostradamus?

I saw a really in depth show on this subject on the history chanel.But prior to seeing the show I already had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach that something was going to go down in the next few years. With everything that's going wrong in the world today I feel maybe Im not just paranoid (as my husband says).. Should we at the very least prepare for something?Just in case?I have kids we cant be caught in the middle of war and famine completely unprepared.. better safe than sorry I say.what do you guys think?
 
As far as i know Nostradamus had not made any predicitons about that date, however the it is believed by some that the world is supposed to end as that is when the mayan calender stops.
believe what you will, perhaps they ran out of paper!!?
