First of all, I'm not even sure it's a real movie. I saw it in a dream, but the dream felt so familiar, like I'd seen it all before. I'm sure at least part of it came from a movie, and it's bugging the hell out of me that I don't remember where it's from. Anyway, the dream/plot went something like this (remember, since I saw this in a dream, some of the details might be really distorted and different from the film):
It takes place in the future. A bunch of scientists/astronauts are aboard a spaceship that's returning to Earth. (This is a high-tech futuristic spacecraft, so it doesn't need a landing strip, it can just hover down.) Anyway, as they get closer to Earth, they see an object in the sky; and as the object gets closer, it reveals itself to be a huge flying alien. The alien is pissed-off and it starts talking telepathically to the astronauts, saying that they stole its child and it wants it back (I think it calls its child "Alan"). Then the alien begins destroying the entire city, flying through skyscrapers, shooting laser beams at people and buildings, and causing general mayhem. Then it somehow turns all the humans into tiny, disfigured, alien-looking creatures and it starts communicating with them, telling them that their species has "done a great crime." It traps a bunch of people, including the crew members, in a house, and tells them not to leave. The people stay there, and as some of them begin to fall asleep, they hear a knocking above them. They go to a room next to the one they were sleeping in, and they see a ladder in the corner that wasn't there before, rising to the attic above. One of the men begins to climb it. But I woke up after that, so I don't know what happens next.
Does any part of that sound familiar?
