What is "verify" option when burning a dvd?

is it needed? will it just tell me if there is an error? do you use the verify option with burning software?

Like everyone said above, its not needed it will take longer but it just checks over the disk to see if everything is there.

You are correct, verifying will look through the entire contents of the DVD and compare it to the original once the burn is completed. Most people do not verify their copies in this way, as it can take a very long time. It's easier to just open the disc and use it as your normally would, though this is not as accurate as verifying because verifying will check the entire disc.
