what kind of bike is good for riding on dessert terrain (arizona)? Im a girl.?

I currently have a saffire expert mountain bike from specialized. I love my bike and ride it alot in the summer in michigan. Terrain is dirt, roots, logs, small rocks, leaves, some sand. I was told that when you ride out west in desert mountainous areas, you need a different kind of moutain bike. Is this true?

Whats a good womans bike for rocky and dessert terrain?
