What religion was Friedrich Nietzsche?

I'm not completely sure if he was an atheist because some websites say that he was not an atheist but had a very low view of God and religion. So was he an atheist or not? Or what was his religion?

Nietzsche never characterized himself specifically as an atheist, and although he came from a very religious background, descended from several generations of Lutheran preachers, he never understood the Bible or Jesus. He also started out his education studying to be in the clergy, but preferred to study other things eventually.

In his writings, Nietzsche had the highest praise for Jesus Christ, and admired him openly, although he severely criticized every other thing that he ever discussed in his printed works. He is famous for having said "God is dead, and it is we who have killed him", and this perfectly summarizes Nietzsche's understanding of religion as it existed within Europe in the 19th century. He knew about and admired Jesus Christ. He knew that Christ had died. But he did not understand about the resurrection. When Nietzsche discusses Paul, he has only criticisms of him and despises him terribly.

Since he didn't believe or understand about the resurrection, obviously he thought Paul was a nut job.

I think he was a buddhist!0!

Buddhism is considered to be one of the forerunners of existentialism.

Oh well, Mr. N. was a great philosopher.

He was an atheist, but unlike today's new atheists, he had mixed feelings about the creeping secularism of his time.

The parable of the madman is perhaps the most famous thing he ever wrote, and it convey's well his mixed feelings:

The first paragraph sounds exactly like the atheists on here, and Neitzsche had no time for their nineteenth century counterparts.

Al-Azl or Coitus Interruptus in Islam: Raping Slaves without Making Them Pregnant

Hadith 3.718 : I saw Abu Said and asked him about coitus interrupts. Abu Said said, "We went with Allah's Apostle, in the Ghazwa of Bani Al-Mustaliq and we captured some of the 'Arabs as captives, and the long separation from our wives was pressing us hard and we wanted to practice coitus interruptus. We asked Allah's Apostle (whether it was permissible). He said, "It is better for you not to do so. No soul, (that Allah has) destined to exist, up to the Day of Resurrection, but will definitely come into existence."

Does this mean that the Companions of the Prophet (SAW) didn't commit adultery when they practiced 'azl with the captive girls?.

Atheist. And he wasn't a Nihilist. He was against Nihilism and wrote whole books refuting Nihilism.

Edit: god is dead is just something a character in one of his books said. It wasnt nietzsche saying it.

Nietzsche was NOT a nihilist!

He was an atheist, and he despised religion.

@Lachrymose Lover: He didn't mean "God is Dead" in a literal sense.
