what size and resolution should I make my photos for internet use?

I'm involved in my first real photo shoot and my client is wanting print 8X10's and also to have a digital copy for a website he is making. I don't want to give a digital copy of the high res images for obvious business reasons so I'm wondering what size and resolution I should make the photos for digital storage to help minimize chance of copyright infringement later. IE. where they will be originally 8X10, would I size them at 4X5 and drop the resolution to 75dpi. I'm just unsure with the way it would display on a web page and still not have enough quality to enlarge...It is important for the picture to still showcase my work on screen so the resolution has to be adequate for that. (I'm using photoshop for editing)

It depends on the program you are using, a few of them can record actions. Open a picture, and start the recorder, a dialogue box will open asking what you want to call it, give it any name you wish, go to Image>Image Size and select pixels as your unit of measure, type in 800 on the longest side and 72 for the resolution, stop the recording. You will need to use Save As and save as a Jpeg.

The beauty in creating an action such as this is that they can be applied in Batch Processing and convert a whole file full of pictures at once to a separate file.

An 8x10 image at 75DPI will be 600x750 pixels. That's plenty big for screen display, yet not large enough to get a good print from.
