What software do I need to convert my DivX and WMV's to H.264 for internet use?

I need to convert all my old DivX and WMV format videos to a H.264 format for my website. Is there a converter to make this easy for me?
Thanks!
I tried WinFF but it just crashes as soon as you try to encode.
Not interested in spending money when there are so many open source options to choose from.

Available for Windows and Linux.
It's a GUI for the FFMPEG encoder, which includes x264, the best H.264 encoder around.
