replace the head unit first, then get a subwoofer in the trunk instead of speakers, it would be much louder and you can always run a sub as a speaker (thats what i did), otherwise just get some 6x9 in the trunk. you can buy an amp and run your speakers off that which would give them more power, but it should get sufficient power without a amp

you dont need to replace your stock speakers unless they are not doing anything or they suck. I have an old cadillac 1990 and I had to replace all the stock speakers and the radio deck because it didn't work. You should get a new radio deck and then they should have a rca out put to go to an amp and then to the sub. Go to sonicelectronix.com you can find loaded box sets there that will give you a sub box and amp and a sub.

Run your subwoofer as a speaker? Wtf?
Listen, if your radio and door speakers WORK don't fix them (for now).
Get a subwoofer in a nice box with a amp to match. It will give your car a nice full sound and give it that boom your looking for. Sub/amp combos start at around $150 and up. Once you've had that in your car for a little while, THEN look into a new headunit and door speakers and amps and all that.
