What was the worlds first religion ?

Religion started out as an informal reverence of common everyday things; the sun, plants, fire, stones, etc.

The first 'formal' religion could be argued. The two that many consider to be the first are Hinduism and Zoroastrianism.

Nobody knows for sure. The oldest known organized religion was that of ancient Egypt (known from grave writings of more than 5000 years old) but there is no doubt that religion is older than that. But nobody knows HOW much older.

The sword ( well technically ... couldve been a club or sharpened stick first.) ... closely followed by the second > $

They are still the supreme gods on earth to this day. Though TV and the movie screen have joined the club in my opinion. Even many of the most devout religious zombies spend more time in front of the TV, than they do in church.

Christianity. The sacrifice of the animals with which God clothed Adam and Eve indubitably foreshadowed Christ. This was around 6000 years ago; there was never a time when man was unaware of a higher power.

Well the earliest traces of any kind of worship of superstitious beliefs are the cave drawings and altar of neanderthal man.

For example, there's cave paintings and bear bones stacked capriciously in discoveries in Switzerland, France and italy. Yes, you guessed it .... a bear cult!!

But if you don't, count that you can point to any early pagan religion.

No one knows. But all tribes everywhere dealt with death, floods, crops failing, lightening, thunder, hail, earthquakes. And every single one of those tribes did not know what caused those things.

Thus, they were attributed to spirits, ghosts, or gods. And the "smart" ones of the tribes pronounced themselves shaman or witch doctors, and made up spells and read the intestines of goats or sheep to foretell the future.

Entire families pronounced themselves "royal"...ancient Egypt is a good example of this.... the Pharaoh was the Sun God on the earth, and he got credit for the yearly flood, and the harvest.... and as well, the blame when things went all wrong.

We DO know that they thought something.... Neanderthals buried babies and others who had died, with flowers and amulets. And yet today, there are primitive tribes that have no religion... one is near the Lake Manyara Game Reserve in Tanzania. An article about them a few months ago in Nat Geo Mag. They believe in nothing...dead is dead, and there is no ceremony when one dies.

People have been worshipping the sun since they evolved to the point of being able to understand its significance. Sun-worship was arguably the first religion, and the sun was the first "higher power."

technically Hinduism but Adam and Eve and their decendents worshipped GOD 1st. but they had no religion cuz the term Judaism and Jew weren't created yet. so pre-Jews i geuss
