What was the year when the christian calendar was adopted?

Before the Christian Calendar what year was it? Who decided to apply the calendar? Was it retrospectively applied, if so when?
 
After the romans killed jesus they designed the ROMAN calendar. THEN the romans adopted christianity
 
In the western world the first calendar was the Julian calendar named after Julius Caesar. Before he authorized the change the old Roman months were not keeping in time with the solar year.

Then Pope Gregory added the refinements of leap day every four years.

Saint Bede was the English Historian, working as a monk in a monastery who used Christs birthday as a start point for recording his history
