im 18 5'6'' and about 120 lbs (i kno skinny) and ive never had a dirt bike before....so i was wondering what a good bike would be thats good for off road but can keep up with the traffic on the streets and you wont have to be maxing out the dirt bike just keeping up with the traffic

When I first started in an MSF class, I was riding a CRF230L by honda- it definetely had enough pep, a 250-400 would be a good starting range. Examples such as Yamaha WR250R, Suzuki DRZ400, and the honda.

Consider the Yamaha XT225, also called the Serow. Was made for several years and up until recently. Just check it has electric start (for sure the later ones did, not sure about the oldest ones). There are lots of these, so shop around for good price and condition.

Also, Kawasaki KLR250, a bit bigger and heavier than the Serow.

Kawasaki Super Sherpa, silly name but a decent bike, 250cc, lower seat height and not bad off-road. Electric start.

An older bike will be more affordable, try a Honda XR250L, made around 1991 but really good off road. Kick start only but usually easy to start. Any Honda XL250 might do, but we are talking much older, like in the '80's.

Will has got you off to a good start. Also consider the Suzuki DR200 and DRZ250 and DR350SE. The Yamaha XT250 and 350, both older models, could work well and be quite affordable.
