No aliens. It could be a trilogy, series,....or not. Preferably something recently released, but just looking for a good read.

Dune by Frank Herbert
Dragonrider of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey
Crystalsinger - same author
I, Robot - Asimov
Foundation series - same author

Classic works by people like Isaac Asimov (Foundation Trilogy), Robert Heinlein, Arthur C Clark (Childhood's End) are still worth while. Jack Chalker's Nathan Brazil series is a little more recent as is good fun. Peter Hamilton's Void trilogy is good (but his later sequels fall flat and his Greg Mandel stories stink,) Terry Pratchett's "Diskworld" stories are always a lot of fun.

You could also read some of my stories. <grin>

If your looking for a YA book I will suggest the tunnels series. No aliens. It is a sci-fi. I love it
