How ironic that you reject iTunes - one of the few 100% legitimate download sites. A site that pays the mandatory fees to the music protection societies which in turn pay royalties to the artist which is part of their salary to which they are legally entitled.
Do you honestly think music artists do it all for fun? Are you that naive? Music is their profession and they make their living from it just as a doctor or lawyer makes their living from their profession.

I believe that people who steal songs from the Internet instead of buying them the honest way should be slapped in jail, to make them learn the difference between right and wrong.
