What's an interesting topic that changes daily/weekly but isn't the news?

A good conversation starter I guess. Something interesting, entertaining, easy to keep up with that isn't the news?

For example: Internet trends. But I want a really good one that's really good at starting conversations.

I don't just want a conversation.
I want something that can be talked about daily, much like a show-- like "The Daily Show" or what not. By conversation starter, I'm implying something that gets people thinking, or entertains people.
 
if you just want to make conversation it is easy to ask abut them. Here are some good conversation starters.

What is your favorite College Athletic team?
Did you ever work at an on campus job? What was it?
Who was your favorite teacher?
What subject do you wish you had paid more attention to in school?
What do you like to cook?
What book can you read over an over again?
Do you believe in life on other planets?
Who taught you to cook?
If you could have a conversation with someone from history who would it be?
