I am going to get a Ninja 250R and I want to hear what are some good things to follow when riding a bike for the first time. I will be riding mostly on freeways and highways. So any feedback is appreciated! I will also be checking this book out: The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Motorcycles, 3rd edition

Also read "Proficient Motorcycling", by David Hough. Once you have taken your riding course, obtained your license, and ridden enough to start to feel comfortable on the bike, watch out. That is a point at which many riders have accidents. They start to feel like they are getting it, and their guard drops.

Get in the habit of constant alertness, scanning your mirrors and watching traffic half a mile ahead. Don't follow anything you can't see through, and ride for open space, trying to avoid riding beside other drivers, instead keeping the spaces clear on either side.

The highways not a great place to start riding. Practice like crazy. You always need to watch out what's going on around you, people in cars aren't looking out for motorcycles. Always pay attention.
