Whats the BEST disc to use to store photos on that will play on computer

AND a dvd player? I usually use a CD-R to store photos on & it works well on pc viewing. But when I upload photos to share with friends, they say they tried to see it on their dvd player & it didn't work. I bought DVD+R because the lady at the store said it was best to use. I want to make sure before I waste any more money & I have a few events coming up.
 
You have to use some kind of DVD. Nothing else will work in a typical DVD player.
