What's the difference between a laptop and a netbook?

I've seen them in stores thinking they were both the same, but were in separate categories.
Just bugging me...

Netbooks are suppose to be 10" or smaller, lack an optical drive, usually powered by an Intel Atom, they're designed for basic tasks and web browsing machines and long battery life.
