what's the difference between a tropical fish and a salt water fish?

i am confused help me pls!!!!!
i want to keep a clown fish so what type of a fish is that and what kind of a fish tank will i need like 24 gallon or something and will i need a heater?

tropical fish are fish that are freshwater but the water is heated. and salt water has salt. but if you mean whats the difference of the fishh, then i dont remember, sorry!

Ok Heres help for the idiots who dont know the awnser to this question!

TROPICAL FISH ARE THOSE THOS THAT LIVE/ORIGINATE FROM THE TROPICS...THEY CAN BE EITHER FRESH OR SALTWATER FISH.

SALT WATER FISH ARE FISH THE LIVE IN SALTWATER AKA: THE OCEAN

Not all tropical fish are saltwater fish, but all saltwater fish are tropical. Go tot eh pet shop - most of what they have are called tropical fish, but do not live in saltwater tanks.

Freshwater fish live in streams and rivers and most prefer water with no salt in it where as salt water come from the ocean and indefinately need a good level of salt in their water which needs to be balanced carefully to provide a stable environment for them to live in.

Both freshwater and salt water use similar methods of fish keeping.. aquatic plants are used in fresh water where as coral and live rock are used in salt water to maintain a healthy environment.

Both methods rely on good water parameters and important factors are Ph, Ammonia , Nitrite and Nitrate with a few more for Salt water

The difference of a tropical fish and the saltwater fish is where they live. Saltwater fishes live in the saltwater seas (e.g. Oceans, beaches, seas, etc...) while the tropical fishes live in fresh and warmer waters which is near the temperate to tropical zones (e.g. Guppies)
