I have a recipe for cookies that calls for rolled oats and all I have are old fashioned oats. Can I substitute or will it affect the outcome of the cookie too much?
Old fashioned *is* rolled oats in the original thickness (hence the "old fashioned" name). But, they also make different varieties of rolled oats that are thinner and in smaller pieces. These are the "instant" or "quick" oats and you shouldn't use them for a recipe, unless a recipe specifically calls for them.
Rolled oats are instant and will cook in a minute on the stove or microwave.
Old Fashioned take 5 - 7 minutes to cook. I have used old fashioned in
the Quaker Oats recipe and it turned out lovely. I don't see your
recipe so I cannot know for certain.
