I wouldn't force anyone to speak it, but I would definitely encourage it. And I would stop encouraging people to speak foreign languages here.
Does it really help unite a country if 75% speaks English, 20% speaks Spanish, and 5% speaks "other"? It just divides America up. What happened to progress?
When I was younger I knew a nice girl who moved here from Korea and she was able to learn English within less than 2 years, she even became one of the top students in school. I hate adults telling me that it's "too hard for immigrants to learn". You can learn the language if you put your mind to it. If a kid can do it, then an adult can do it too.
