When Egypt was a Christian nation, how did Muslims convert it to Islam?

Very slowly, over about 1000 years, mostly through the incentive of lower tax rates and government positions for Muslims.

When was Egypt a Christian nation? Granted, I skipped some history, but last I read of it having anything to do with Christianity, the Egyptian Christians were wiped out in the first century, far better a job than the Romans did with their Christians.

There are still Coptic Christians in Egypt. I don't believe that Egypt was ever a Christian theocracy. Before Islam, many of the people there were pagan.
