This started happening about 6 months ago. The entire truck jerks to a complete stop when I brake. I took my truck to firestone and they "turned" the rotors about three months ago and it cost me $100. The shaking did stop but only for about a month and then it came back. What can be causing this?
Warped rotors causes the pulsating, pad/shoe friction material that is contaminated with oil will cause grabbing or jerking at low speeds.
Once rotors have been turned true on a lathe after being warped they almost always warp again because they are now thinner.
Warping is caused by uneven tightening of the lug nuts and by rapid heating and cooling of the rotor due to hard sudden braking. I have a friend that always waits till the last possible second to brake and because of this her rotors are severely warped on her '05 Impala. I can't stand to drive her car it is so bad. In the space of less than 1500 feet she slows down from 50 MPH to slow enough to turn on to a gravel road. I usually cancel the cruise about a mile before my turn and coast depending on the grade and if I have people behind me or not and I have never had warped rotors.
