When I turn my dell laptop on the screen goes blank?

I turn it on and a screen appears saying there was trouble during last shut down
it says: either start windows normally or fix problems
I have tried both options many times and which ever one i click, it loads for a few seconds and then shuts down again.
I have tried turning it on and off, taking out the battery, reinstalling all of the discs that came in the box.
please help
