when they took communion, I was confused about what was going on and didn't understand what we were doing. I got in line and was trying to do all the actions I had seen the others do when they gave me the bread and drink. After the priest gave it to me, I said, "I'm not really sure if I was supposed to have that because I'm not catholic." He had a surprised look on his face and he told me to go pray for forgiveness. This scared the crap out of me. Why would the biblical god punish me for doing that when I had no idea what was going on, or what a communion was?
Lemon, I'm still in trouble in that case.

I had a similar experience.

As far as a "biblical god" there isn't one, so no worries.

If there is A god of some kind out there, that god is definitely not the Christian's god. A true god wouldn't be so cruel or perverted. A true god would judge a being based on their actions.

The Catholics invented the ceremony, not their god. No god should punish someone based on man-made accusations.

Honesty, the priest was probably flustered at what you said and what he meant to say didn't come out right.

Non-Catholics and Catholics in a state of mortal sin, are not supposed to receive communion. So when you said you were not Catholic after having received communion, well, that's not very common.

Plus you said you weren't sure you were supposed to do it. I don't want to sound like I'm laying blame here, but typically if a person is not sure if something is ok, they really ought to find out BEFORE they go do it.

God would not punish you for ignorance. Don't worry. It is only willful defiance that he hates.

Firstly; God is not mad at you nor was He ever. The Priest assumed that since you were in the line-up, that you were a Catholic. When you informed him that you were not - he thought that you were trying to pull one over on him. Remember; he is human too and does make mistakes. The entire scenario referred to as a MISUNDERSTANDING. ( and no God was never mad at you nor any one - God wasn't even angry, period and does not go about punishing people)

You were being a faker and admitted so by saying you were doing what everyone else was doing. Not wise when it comes to holy matters. But if you asked for forgiveness then you are okay and shouldn't still be worried about it now that you are older. Usually this kind of guilt is a sign that either you were not sorry or you didn't accept God's forgiveness.

lol...you were being honest...this is not something a priest hears every day. You probably caught him off guard, and that was his automatic response. To receive Jesus worthily, one must go through many steps in order to make sure you are prepared for this association. Certainly, it is a very close one, and you should know what you are doing before you do it, and your cousins may not have known every detail about the rules for receiving Christ in this way.

It is strange and simple, wonderful and disconcerting.

Someone should have explained the customs of the Catholic service. Not your fault. I wouldn't worry about it.
