When is a good age for a child to recieve his/her own cellphone?

I think it depends on a lot of factors. But I can't see a six year old needing a phone, because a six year old ought to always be with an adult. Almost every adult I know carries a cellphone these days. I'd say whenever a child starts to be independent by walking to school with friends, going places without mom and dad, going to activities without mom and dad. That's sometime around the age of 11 - 13
 
Funny story. I saw a six years old child with a touchscreen phone. I always want to know. When is the right time to give a child his or her own phone
