Where are the free newsgroups at ?

there used to be plenty..now they seem to be hidden; can anyone help me out? also any bit torrent sites that don't charge wold be swell too. thanks
 
maybe they're trying to save paper?
i've noticed this too
either that or the paperboys are chucking them out and not doing their job well
