...DVD-drive (TSSTcorp TS-H653F DVD+-RW)? I have starting having great difficulty playing my DVD-movies, and suspect something is up with my drive. Something are read with no problem, but most of my DVD-movies -- which I've been able to play on the same drive/computer before -- will no longer work... The disc spins, and you hear the drive *try* to start reading at the beginning; again and agian and again. I have a Dell Inspirion 530 (I think), with a TSSRcorp TS-H653F ATA DVD+-RW drive (Toshiba rebrand of a Samsung model I think). If anybody have experienced the same, I would like to know what the problem was and how to solve it (like cleaning the lens or upgrading the firmware).
I would like to make a DVD or CD for testing the drive -- either just letting it try to read something from a disc (to discover particular problems; like laser or firmware) and/or run programs for testing the drive (generic or vendor/model-specific) -- to find out what the problem is. Would it help to upgrade the firmware... is it a problem with the laser... something mechanical... just defective...?
I suppose the best place to find something like this would be at the vendors page (has anybody found something like this?), but a generic test-CD/DVD would also be very useful (are there any good ones?)...
So, where can I download the image for a test disc?
