Where can I learn the fundementals of fictional writing?

I have some idea for fictional stories I would like to write, but want to get a good knowledge of some of the skills I will need to know in order to make the stories successful and interesting to read (such as structure, pace, drafts to finished chapters, etc). Any opinions on good websites, books or college courses I could take to develop my skills?
 
most adult education centres run creative writing courses, I have done a short one which was really interesting, worth a look.
 
Contact your local F.E. College. They often run Creative Writing courses, or will point you in the right direction. Ask for the Marketing Dept.
