Where do Christians get the misguided idea that heaven is their eternal bliss

when according to Jesus.........? heaven is going to pass away?

Matthew.24/35...."Heaven and Earth will pass away but my words will by no means pass away".

Do Christians have trouble understanding their own texts or is this another case of taking something "out of context" again?

It sounds like someone has been having a lend of you!
Yazzy....Oh, so now you can even psychoanalyze Jesus.
You people would twist anything to try and justify your beliefs.
You have an amazing talent, you're completely wasting it here!
Locadako.....In that case i would be a good Christian.
Twisting the texts to suit my own argument, I thought Christians did that everyday.
heartless.....Apply Common sense to the bible?
You're joking of course.

Heaven is not the "eternal" abode of Christians who leave this earth.

Revelation 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful." 6 And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.

7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. 8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

There are 3 heavens.

Revelation 21.8
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

Have you read the entire passage, for this passage is describing the end of a generation/age. Talking about false prophets, and how even in the end Christs words are still there. Some think the end of age already happened(talking about the destruction of Jeruesalum) other beliefs its talking about the revelations prohpechy. But no matter what, the whole point of the passage is that GOD will always stand no matter what happenes.

Does anybody else get tired of athiests coming on here, trying to disprove our beliefs with our own passages that WE have read?

Here are some passages that describe heaven as wonderful:

However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind as concieved what God has prepared for those who love HIm." 1 Corinthians 2:9

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things will be gone forever. Revelation 21:4

Among Jesus' words that "will by no means pass away" is the promise of eternal life and heaven. Is it most likely that he is contradicting himself or that he means "the sky" in that sentence. Especially since joining the sky with the earth passing away makes sense, joining paradise with the earth doesn't. Common sense should settle the question.

edit: I'm talking about understanding ordinary language, not anything specific to the Bible.

I guess u didn't know that there will be a new heaven and earth.

Revelation 21:1 "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea."

Oh dear. Seems you are the misguided one.

Still, it does not matter. Still time for you to make the wise choice.

Don't wait too long though!

truly you are exploring things that christianity would declare heresy! ;)

however, i know you are coming to revelation which suggests the necessity for greater understanding and expounding

first, the hebrew word for heaven can also be descriptive of the "sky".

the sky itself is not outerspace and the term for Universe could be mistakenly called heaven.
God Himself said that he exists in the Heaven above all heavens.
solomon or david wrote that there were 7 heavens
and paul wrote that there was a third heaven
Jesus said to the thief on the cross that he would be in paradise with him that day. while yet, Peter wrote that Jesus went to spirits in "prison".
it is conclusively taught that paradise and heaven are not he same place. and while galaxies come and go, some still remain, which means heaven and earth are separate places from heavens of other earths. well,? its implied.
In LDS theology there is expounded revelation upon the topic of three heavens and the different degrees of glory in heaven and in the resurrection.
see Cor 15:32,40-42 50

in medeval thelogy, there were nine circles of authority where the angels are the lowest circle and seraphin are the highest. archangels ony receive a second level of glory, imagine how great a mortal being Must become just to become of the same level of degree to be equal with Michael?!!!

in LDS doctrine it is written:
D&C 131: 1
1 In the celestial glory there are three heavens or degrees;
