Where is the line between honoring your mother and father and standing up

for yourself? It's a Abrahamic thing, correct? To honor your mother and father.

Well, I am not a Christian(an atheist in fact) so please, with all due respect, can you help me understand this:

One of the commandments is to honor your mother and father, yet if your mother and father are asking for ridiculous things or overbearing things isn't there a point to quit?

I mean, let's say your father asked you to stick a pair of scissors into someone's head and kill them, or your mother told you to hate someone, those are both sins according to the commandments as well(the latter I believe was actually a definition by Jesus of what counts as murder) so how do you honor that?

I'm looking for serious answers, not to insult. I apologize if I have stepped on any toes, that was not my intention. I am just confused with this.
