passages and explain how they? reflect the novel or society etc

Passages which seem important thematically, that imply an understanding about society, human nature or behavior
Passages which help the reader better understand a character.
Passages which describe the setting or society of the time period.
Passage which reveals a growing conflict, the climax or turning point, or the conclusion of the story.
Passages which contain literary techniques such as irony, foreshadowing, or figurative language.
Passages which are funny, sad, thoughtful, or just well-written.
In other words, choose passages that you will be able to write about

Although you will not write the responses to these passages at home, we have included an example of a student generated response to a passage to illustrate what your teacher may expect you to write when you get back to school.

1. I stared at the plans. “Dad,” I said, “you’ll never build the Glass Castle”(238).
The glass castle, also the title of the book, symbolizes the relationship between Rex and Jeanette. This relationship is fragile, like glass, and easily broken. Metaphorically the glass castle is Jeanette’s hope for the future and what could have been accomplished if her father wasn’t an alcoholic. Figuratively, it is finally built when she becomes a journalist in New York City. I chose this passage because the glass castle is a significant symbol in the book which shows how fragile Jeanette’s dreams are.

im thinking of:
-A Brave New World
-The Fountainhead
-Lolita (which my parents say is not particularly appropriate for a class situation, but i want to read it because it sounds i-interesting and pushes boundaries)
-Slaughterhouse Five (ive been wanting to read Vonnegut for so long but need to find the correct good to read)

or anymore suggestions please

thanks!
