I want to purchase a home theatre system. The two I'm looking at right now are:

the Harman Kardon AVR1600/HKTS15 5.1 speaker system. ($799)

And Onkyo TX-NR708/Bose AM15-II 6 speaker system (price on boxing day, $1398)

My question - is the second system worth the extra money? WIll it be that much better? I was at futureshop the other day and thought the Harman Kardon sounded really good. Unfortunately I wasn't able to hear the second option. The room it's going in is roughly 20 x 14 feet with two doorways connected to the kitchen. Additionally, if you have any other suggestions, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I'll also mainly be using it for movies and games through my ps3

yeah, bose is overrated. and with such small speakers, you get a gap in the mid tones. Jiminy had a good suggestion with the Klipsch 5.1 set, which I own, retails 599. then buy a receiver, and any of the two brands, pioneer or yamaha, will do just fine. I have a pioneer and love it. good base, cones in my main speakers made of aluminum... decent quality. Not as familiar with Onkyo but many I've talked to love their receivers.

I'm not as familiar with the HK system in the first part of your question. You are on the right track such that if you spend a little more on a sound system, there's a big difference.

now if I can figure out how to run speaker wire in my walls...
