Which one is better and why?

Star Trek has warp speed but Star Wars has light sabers!

thats easy star trek was wrote as sci -fi where star wars is a romanace story

Well, if you think about it, Star Wars and Star Trek pretty much share a lot of the technology, they just both have different names for them.

For example, the guns used in both are very similar. Both are some sort of laser, except star wars calls them blasters and star trek calls them phasers.

Other examples include light-speed/warp-speed, warp-drive/hyper-drive, both have an enemy that is an empire (klingon empire in star trek...and then in star wars it's just "the empire") and are known themselves as the "federation" (again, in star trek it's "the federation of planets" and in star wars it's pretty much just "the federation").

But there are differences, both good and bad...

Star Wars: Lightsabers, Jedi, and the Force!!! SUPER COOL!!! ... Now that we have that out of the way... the whole epic story-like feel makes star wars a better movie than a tv show. And, there is a much more solid love story. Tech wise, star wars has a lot of great space-craft and gadgets. While star trek only has the Enterprise and the klingon/romulan ships, star wars has a plethora of different flying vehicles that require much more skill to handle (and give us great action-in-space stuff to watch on our tvs). Also, star wars takes place in it's own galaxy completely in it's own time.

Star Trek: Being the first to come out, star trek is given the credit for being the original of the two, and rightfully so. After all, Lucas was himself a trekkie as a child and therefore couldn't help himself (for everyone who is a trekkie, this makes a lot of sense. I like to describe being a trekkie as having a sort of turrets...if someone says something or does something that reminds you of star trek, you have to say something or at least think it if you MUST be totally quiet. You really have no choice. I know only too well, i suffer from it hard core).
Anyway, some cool things technology-wise on star trek include the transporter: the ability to beam around from planet to ship and anywhere else basically in seconds. And, the replicators that could produce food and other needed supplies in seconds were convenient and cool. Also, the Enterprise crew had the ability to go back in time, and the Enterprise visited more planets and alien species than in star wars, even though it takes place in our galaxy, not it's own like in star wars. Captain Kirk and the others did not possess the power to move objects with one's mind, but Spock did have some ability to put thoughts into other's minds and to feel the destruction of other vulcans, etc to an extent like a Jedi.

Hope this helps :) Live long and Prosper \//_
...oh, and may the force be with you, too :)

Star Trek it's much better developed and a more varied and rich version of the universe and technology
the characters are much better-they have more developed personalities.
Star Trek has Worf and Betazoids, and Rigel 7 and Q, and The genesis planet
Star Wars has Ewoks(love 'em wookies too)) and Yoda, and Bobba Fett and, Jedis, and Midiclorines
But for the record--Babylon 5 and Farscape were much better than either one.
and don't forget Firefly.
