Did you try uninstalling the device drivers in Device Manager? In Windows XP category view, click start>control panel>performance and maintenance>system>hardware tab>device manager. Click the plus next to DVD/CD Rom drive, right click your dvd drive and select Uninstall.
In Vista or 7 click start orb>control panel>system and maintenance>system>device manager. Follow same as above to uninstall the device.
Finally, restart your computer and wait for Windows to automatically install the driver for your device.
Did that work? If not you might try looking for a firmware update for your DVD drive. They can sometimes be found on your computer manufacturer's website.
