Why am i always so nervous when i play badminton?

Last year, i joined the badminton team, and to my surprise, i actually got in. When i first joined, i just wanted to have fun, but none of my friends were there. During practices, i am ALWAYS so nervous even though it's just my team mates. I have no idea why. I just start to panic and miss the ball, or give a weak return. I think that it's because that i don't know anyone since when i play with my friend, i'm not nervous at all. I guess i'm just afraid of losing the ball. But, even when i tell myself that there's nothing to be nervous about, i become relaxed for a little while, then once i go into practice again, i get all tense and miss the balls. How can i overcome this? I want to join again next year, but i don't want an repeat of this year. Also, i'm quite new at badminton and don't know most of the terms, like slices. By terms, i mean stuff like clears, drops, and smashes. Can someone give me an definition of these terms and how to do it during a game? Thanks
