Why am I unable to output audio from my TV and/or my home theater?

Here's what I have: I connect a PS3 to the TV via HDMI (sending both video and audio), then I send audio from the TV to the home theater via optical cable. I did this configuration instead of sending the audio straight from the PS3 to the reciever because it wouldn't be 7.1 and my reciever doesn't have HDMI.
This connection is working fine, the image is like it's supposed to be, I get audio from the TV if I want, obviously I get audio from the reciever and all 7 speakers work fine.
My problem is this: I have a chair with built-in speakers and I wanna connect it to all this setting. The only audio input on the chair is regular stereo audio (L - R). First I tried conecting the MULTI conector from the PS3 to send the audio, but it seems the PS3 can not output video/audio via HDMI and audio via the MULTI connector at the same time (damn you sony!). So I tried to output audio from the TV, that's not working. I thought it's because I'm already outputing audio via optical to the reciever so it must be disabling the regular stereo audio output. So I tried to output audio from the reciever (it's not outputing anything else), but that also doesn't work and it doesn't make sense to me. For the record, the chair is working, its speakers work just fine. It's a matter that I can't output audio from the TV nor from the reciever via regular stereo, even though both are recieving audio and the TV is sending audio signal through the optical cable.
Any thoughts?
No, the cable is fine too. I put the PS3 to output via MULTI connector and connected it (through an adapter female - female) to the cable that i'm using with the TV or reciever and the chair is getting the sound. The problem really is that my reciever is not outputing audio and the TV, even though is outputing audio via optical, is not outputing it via stereo at the same time.
