Why are most American cars absolute garbage?

Mpg, quality, and proper design...
These seem to be the main problem
I have been an ASE certified mechanic for about 3 1/2 years now
I tell you, 2 out of 3 cars I work on are usually American
I hate working on them and hate most engine designs
It's a wonder that American car companies are going through an economic crisis? I think not.
I'll say that dodge and Chrysler are acceptable, but there engines are powered by mitsibushi motors -_-
sure corvettes and mustangs are nice, but nothing compared to the lower end ferarris. Hell, even skylines.
I love Honda civics and corollas
I own a '95 civic, it has been in the shop only once

American cars... Just an abomination
 
....but you make no sense. American cars are still made of foreign parts, they are just put together here. So, technically, they are still foreign cars. I agree the engines are built in a different manner than some of the "foreign" cars; however, since they are the same parts wouldn't it be more of an issue concerning the engine construction of certain brands, such as Chevy or Ford?
