Why are we spending billions of dollars on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Why is the government constantly flushing money down the toilet? So stupid.
Well.. which alternative spending programs would you prefer?
We could:
Spend billions on wars where we are not gaining any new territories, nor tribute nor any obvious improvement in our own lot in life. (At least we might feel better about improving the lot of people in foreign lands... if that were to actually happen...)
Spend billions on food subsidies - to feed starving peoples - in countries that have drought and famine lasting for decades... and/or militarized governments or warlords that steal the food off the docks to sell back to other countries - to fund their weapons. Even if the people *were* fed, it would lead to greater numbers of them surviving to bring more children into the world.. to need even more subsidies...
Spending billions on ''immigration reform'' so that we don't get overwhelmed by furriners coming to take our high-paying field-labor and meat-packing industry jobs. Meanwhile, to help fund this, we cut educational funding... and wonder why we are sliding into a second-class-status internationally for our graduation rates - when we have a solid third-class education system being created.
Or.. what programs do *you* think scientific research and development dollars should be spent?
