Why are so many celebrities and models considered attractive?

Honestly, many of the unknown people I pass on the street everyday are way more beautiful than those people I see on TV and in the magazines. I can't possibly be the only one who has noticed this. 
ana2rosa - You seem to have missed my point. I know that not all celebrities are beautiful (most of them aren't, actually), but the moment they get slightly famous, they're described as beautiful and sexy. What's up with that?
