why are so many documentary films not available on dvd?

It seems like tons are not available on places like Amazon and the ones that are are US region 1.
 
It's all about the money. Production companies don't make enough money on them to mass produce them.
 
There are many released on Region 4. I see many of them at the local DVD stores here in the Sydney area of NSW.
