you might have just accidentally muted it or turned off the mic volume .
check it in accessory settings / audio device settings to ensure it's still set as your input and output devices and see if it works when you test it , maybe even disconnect and reconnect it under bluetooth settings to see if that'll work
might as well try everything to get it working before replacing it .
otherwise you picked a good time to need a new headset because they've just redesigned the official ps3 headset to make it lighter , more comfortable and to enable synch to multiple devices at once so you could use it for a ps3 , cell phone and pc without having to reconnect every time . check the ps blog on the ps3 browser for an article about it .
