Why can i only connect to the internet via broadband medic?

Hi, i've got a problem connecting to the internet via my usual sources ie the desktop icons and the explorer program on my start menu. The only way i can get on line is by going throught all the broad band medic program and then selecting the "view web connection" option.

After doing that it takes me to the virgin media page and i have to use that which is crap to say the least. I've tried pretty much everything i can think of and spent hours trying to sort it. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks alot in advance.
 
Ring Virgin for support if they are your service provider.
You do not say if you are on cable or phone line.
If you want an answer you need to give a lot more information
