Why can't I update my apps on my iPhone?

So I used a visa gift card in the app store and eventually I finished it. Now when I want to update my apps I press update, it says "Sign in required. Tap Continue and sign in to view billing information" and it takes me to Payment Method and all of the gift card info is still there, but "There's a billing problem with a previous purchase. Please update your payment method". Well I don't have a credit card nor any other card to put in and there's no option to not have a card like there was before I put that card in... so now I have 6 apps that need to be updated, but I can't update them until I get another gift card or credit/debit card, right?
 
Correct. You need a primary source of payment to continue for any new purchases. That includes a debit card or a credit card that is active for Apple to ping for funds every update. If your credit card or debit card have been discontinued, Apple will flag your account and request a new card.

You can also visit your local grocery store and purchase an Apple Gift Card and plug in as much money as you want in.
