why can't my dvd drive read or detect some dvds?

see, some dvds are detected. some are not, especially the ones that my friend burned movies to. what should i do?
 
It's probably not your drive; more than likely it's the burned DVD's from your friend. The most lilkely cause is even momentary emptying of the buffer that will render a DVD to be defective. Ask your friend to burn a DVD at a slower burn rate and see what happens.
