I know that christians were in hiding for over a 100 years before the creation of catholicism because of persecution by fire, but does anyone know why constantine started the catholic religion? thank you

Constantine did no such thing. Throw away those Chick tracts and get some genuine historical literature. Constantine merely legalized Catholicism after it had ben persecuted for over 300 years. The Catholic Church had already had more than 30 Popes before Constantine was BORN.

Constantine was indeed the first Christian Roman emepror, but he didn't convert to christianity because of faith, but because a large part of the roman people were already members of the christian "sect". So by becoming a christian and still being emperor, he unified rome again, but he wasn't the starter of catholicism per-say.
