and to an extent, Jewish people? I can understand the criticism of Judaism in general since it follows a barbaric text, but what about Reform Judaism? And why does the criticism always slip from religion to Jews themselves (Orthodox and non Orthodox alike)?

If there's evil in the world, and injustice, I can understand the criticism, like how Orthodox Jews interpret literally and cause harm, but why don't Catholics criticize Christians that interpret the bible literally, like the backwards creationist sect? Are Catholics just trained like puppets to only see the evil in Judaism, and not any other religion?

True, the Jewish authorities and those who followed their lead pressed for the death of Christ;(13) still, what happened in His passion cannot be charged against all the Jews, without distinction, then alive, nor against the Jews of today. Although the Church is the new people of God, the Jews should not be presented as rejected or accursed by God, as if this followed from the Holy Scriptures. All should see to it, then, that in catechetical work or in the preaching of the word of God they do not teach anything that does not conform to the truth of the Gospel and the spirit of Christ.

Furthermore, in her rejection of every persecution against any man, the Church, mindful of the patrimony she shares with the Jews and moved not by political reasons but by the Gospel's spiritual love, decries hatred, persecutions, displays of anti-Semitism, directed against Jews at any time and by anyone.

OFFICIAL CATHOLIC TEACHING

Catholics (and the 'reformed' Christian denominations) believe that the promises expressed to Jews in the scripture now apply solely to them.

So the fact that Jews are the ones in the land of promise irks them. Thus the adversarial tone.

Over a hundred points so you are not a mindless troll. You are mistaken that Mel Gibson is a model Catholic. He is the poster boy of some of our more reactionary members, but we do not group think as much as our reputation says we do.

What is your evidence of this acusation. There is no factual basis for your question.

On the whole I've noticed most catholics where I live, in North America, don't have any problems with Jews. They'll criticize Islam or other christians before they will Jews, mainly because there aren't that many jews around here. In Europe it really seems like more of a habit than actual dislike. Treating jews poorly has gone on so long that many denominations of Christianity just need more time to remove the negative image they have had instilled in their brain through out the years.

Hey man. I'm Catholic, and I happen to be a huge fan of the Jews. I mean, our whole religion came from Judaism, so yeah, I really appreciate it. A lot of theology teachers seem to LOVE Judaism for some reason...I don't know why, but they do. Anyways, I haven't met a Catholic who has disliked Judaism. In fact, I think the Catholic-Jew relationship is pretty awesome. I mean, in 1998, John Paul II sent that letter WE REMEBER: A REFLECTION ON THE SHOAH. I thought that really patched up our differences. I mean, he rejected the evils of Holocaust and the traditional thoughts of anti-semitism. I mean, there is not much more the Church can do. We apologized, but we can't turn back time.

Anywho, any Catholic who is antisemitic is NOT Catholic. That includes Mel Gibson. You can actually tell them that right now. I love all Jews. Actually, I love everyone from every religion. No Catholic is supposed to dislike anyone or any religion. We can disagree, but we can't hate.

Most Catholics don't really do what they're supposed to, and all one can do is to hope they change. I apologize for that Catholic who gave you that impression.

To many Catholics, they see Jewish people as those who killed Jesus.

They, the Catholics, don't see that Jesus came to earth to die for our sins and it was all planned in advance.

This is one of the many sad proofs that they aren't really Christians. I'm not saying this about all Roman Catholics, just those who are full of hatred.

Many Roman Catholics, not all, are full of hate towards Bible believing Christians.

I grew up in a devoutly Catholic home, and had many Jewish friends. I don't recall there ever being discord between us. There were interfaith events between local Catholic and Jewish congregations. I remember there being far more discord between Catholics and the Fundamentalists, who felt obligated to stuff anti-Catholic tracts by Jack Chick into mailboxes at Catholic homes and harass and proselytize Catholic kids on their way to parochial school. As for criticizing literalism, what makes you think it doesn't happen? I grew up attending Catholic schools, and we were always discouraged from taking a literalistic approach to sacred texts, and were taught the theory of evolution rather than Creationism. Anyhow, I know that there may very well be some anti-Semitic Catholics out there, but in my years of dealing with thousands of Catholics, I have yet to meet one personally.

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Mat 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
