Why do almost all religions hold humanity as the center of the universe...?

Why is it as if we are always the center of things, that the universe was supposedly created only because we would be in it? Or in the case of theistic religions, that we are the 'finest' of said deities creations?

Why so ego-centric?

Because man wants to believe that everything has meaning, all for the warm and fuzzies.

I guess it scares most people to think that there is no meaning, that it was all just random.
