Why do church bells in England sound so different?

I know this is a very silly question, but when I was in London few days ago I noticed that church bells there sound really different than bells in the rest of the Europe do (including those in Slovenia, where I come from)! They sound almost like they were "singing", while bells in other countries sound much more monotonous! OK, If anyone knows more about bells than I do and even understands what I'm babbling about here, can he/she please explain this to me! ;)
