Why do DVD's come in different size cases to CD's?

They are both the same size when you open the cases. Is it just so we can tell them apart or is there another reason?
 
Because DVD's often contain more visual and written information and so then DVD's need larger to hold the extra paper. But, both are on the wya out. We don't own DVD's or CD's and have been free of the annoying and out dated things for almost three years. We are totally digital. Go digital. It's much much better I think.
 
Probably so people can tell them apart? Same reasons why Books typically come in a differential size than A Magazine.
